What can people expect when they come to see the show?
A night of festive debauchery, queer excellence and mystical mayhem. It’s a Christmas show for those people who don’t find solace in the normal traditions of Christmas, (who really wants to eat dry turkey with their homophobic Nan?). It’s about bringing the community together with comedy and cabaret and most importantly pure anarchy, to create a space that breeds queer joy.
How did you come up with the idea for the show?
I love the concept of doing a traditional televised Christmas special with fake cameras and a live studio audience, but to give it the tongue in cheek Séayoncé twist. She is the baddest witch in the spirit world and will use her magical abilities to give you a night you simply won’t forget… no matter how much you or your therapist try.
How did you come up with Séayoncé?
I was emceeing a stand-up night and was just chatting to the audience about a guy who had ghosted me that week, and I basically said that he wasn’t texting me back because he had died. So then we had to contact him from the afterlife but I would have to be the Queen of the Dead not just Dan Wye and then I came up with the name Séayoncé. I was fortunate enough to develop the character with cabaret icons includsing Bourgeois and Maurice, Jonny Woo, and Lucy McCormick at Soho Theatre. I was lucky that Seáyoncé became the cult success she did so quickly.
